about
‘Day & Night’ looks at how reality and fiction are interdependent. Without dreams nothing changes, but tangible action is needed to bring our hopes into existence. The first part of the song dives into dreamland, painting a pretty picture of the tides of the earth and expressing a desire for us to become more connected to each other. In the second part of the song, the illusion that we’re just singing with the birds and bees is broken. From sewing together parts of a jam with their band, margomool creates an eerie piece that hangs on the sentiment that ‘we can’t stop circling through space and time in this cold dark light’. margomool created two opposing visuals for ‘Day & Night’ with different visual artists. The first is an animation of ‘Day’, made by non-binary Leeds-based animator Molly Pukes. They created an entire fantasy world based on the destructive and nurturing characteristics of human nature. With so many people not being able to go outside over the COVID-19 pandemic, the Artists saw an opportunity to bring some adventure and beauty to people’s screens. The visuals for ’Night’ made with George Nindi delve into the darkness of existentialism…
lyrics
Flip your map to another side
See all ways the moon can rise
Gold in the sky like a phoenix or a silver smile
Polyamorous constellations
Myths of romance with each nation
Only subordinate to coordinates
My loves up high
Fold your map like the rarest star
Spread your claws like your jaguar
Lolling in tree trunks
Deeply sunk in dreams so far
Your tail is poised to the last degree
Pupils wide with curiosity
On diamonds they’re locked
Only Gaia’s clock winds our heartbeat
Our hearts beat together
The world’s so funny
It twists and turns
This thing called money
It makes it burn
But I know the real thing
They got a golden ring
That we can’t stop circling
We can’t stop circling
Through space and time in this cold dark light
